Some preliminary research today may indicate that ISIS is targeting the
educational sector. Several messages in IRC and on Pastebin point to
social engineering attempts at educational locations in the US and other
friendly countries by purported ISIS members. The information being
seen has shown that hackers believed to be associated with ISIS feel
that the educational sector may be an easy target and it appears as
though they may have already started socially engineering some
educational institutions.
One poster states that the attackers have turned the event into a
contest to see how many targets can be racked up in the next 24 hours.
It also appears as though the University of Michigan is one of the named
targets and has been noted in multiple post. Not surprising with the
large Muslim population in that part of the country.
